Sears’ Heroes at Home Program Announces Fall Projects
with Rebuilding Together of the Palm Beaches
Sears’ Heroes at Home Program, Rebuilding Together of the Palm Beaches start
Renovations this fall for the Military Community
West Palm Beach, Florida – Heroes at Home, a program created through the
collaboration of Sears Holdings Corporation and Rebuilding Together, announced the
beginning of their fall 2011 Heroes at Home projects. Heroes at Home projects are key
initiatives for Rebuilding Together, the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve
affordable homeownership, and strive to improve the lives of the military and their
families through extensive home rehabilitations.
Rebuilding Together of the Palm Beaches will be assisting Veterans Services of
America–Housing for Homeless Veterans in WPB to make repairs necessary to
house the veterans. Over 200 volunteers from Rebuilding Together and Sears will
complete repairs, painting and landscaping for VSA in West Palm Beach so that our
veterans will have a place to live.
“Heroes at Home is not only a program, but an opportunity for us to serve our fellow
veterans and address their critical housing needs, which are quite common throughout
military households,” said Gary A. Officer, president and CEO of Rebuilding
Together. “Our work with Sears allows us to engage with the veteran community
and rehabilitate their homes to livable conditions based on their needs. This fall,
we continue to impact an increasing amount of lives through the Heroes at Home
program.”
Heroes at Home projects are scheduled to be completed in more than 60 cities across
the country. The projects include renovations for veterans who are unable to live in
their current home conditions, due to injuries or obstacles that threaten their avenue to
a safe and accessible home.
To date, Sears Holdings has raised over $12 million for Heroes at Home through a
nationwide in-store fund-raising campaign. This is one of the hundreds of projects
made possible by these donations. Rebuilding Together has completed over 900
projects for veteran homeowners across the country. The success of this program is
only expected to rise as more projects are completed.
Heroes at Home fall rebuilds will begin in August and conclude in November.
