Need a Full Featured Office Program but Can't Afford It?
*OpenOffice.org 3.3 Ready for Download*
--Free Productivity Suite Used by More than 100 Million Now Includes Enterprise Features--
Hamburg, Germany, 26 January 2011--- The OpenOffice.org Project today announces the release of OpenOffice.org 3.3, which includes features and improvements addressing current and future user requirements, regardless of scale. Stepping into a new arena, OpenOffice.org 3.3 brings to enterprise users, both in public and private sectors, improved compatibility with Microsoft Office, spreadsheet and presentation
enhancements, and superior security and collaboration options. A full list of what the Project's Community have accomplished can be found at
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/features/3.3/>.
OpenOffice.org 3.3 marks a milestone in the suite's maturation. Ten years after the Project was initiated, the suite has grown from being the “free alternative” to the default and even preferred choice for the more than one hundred million who have come to value the quality, reliability, and extensibility of the application, as well as the flexibility given by the the suite's file format, the OpenDocument
Format (ODF), the leading open standard for office documents.
To download OpenOffice.org 3.3 for free: http://download.openoffice.org/
There is a lot that is new and enhanced in OpenOffice.org 3.3. But not least, it is also simply faster, both in startup time and in overall operation. Some of the of
new elements include:
* embedded standard PDF fonts
* new document security and collaboration options
* provisions for one million rows in a spreadsheet
* new options for CSV (Comma Separated Value) import in Calc
* ability to insert drawing objects in Charts
* improved slide layout handling in Impress
* a common search toolbar
Andrew Southworth, Network Coordinator, Canadian Labour Congress, wrote, “It's never been just about the savings. The Canadian Labour Congress selected OpenOffice.org in support of what it does and how it goes about doing it. It's the full support of the ODF that frees us from committing to any one vendor. And it's the extensions, the enterprise elements and the open-source code that gives all those we represent and work with in Canada, from schools to hospitals to libraries to private sector corporations the freedom of real productivity — without being locked into a particular company's vision of how you should work. Saving money on software is great. But OpenOffice.org, with its support of the ODF, is more than about the bottom line. It's about the freedom to choose the best.”
A full guide to new features is available at
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/features/3.3/
The security bulletin with full details of the potential vulnerabilities fixed is at
http://www.openoffice.org/security/bulletin.html
OpenOffice.org is fully supported by the worldwide Community and by professional companies, both large and small. Oracle proudly continues the sponsorship of the Project building the application and welcomes contributions from all.

AARP FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 5TH ANNUAL WOMEN'S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Women 40+ with financial need are eligible for Scholarships or
More than $450,000 in Educational Scholarships have been Awarded
WASHINGTON, DC- The AARP Foundation today announced a call for entries to its fifth annual Women's Scholarship Program. The website only application opens February 1, 2011. The Scholarships will provide funds to women 40+ who are seeking new job skills, training and educational opportunities to support themselves and their families.
Eligible applicants must be:
Women;
Age 40+ by March 31, 2011;
Able to demonstrate financial need;
Enrolled in an accredited school or technical program within 6 months of the scholarship award date.
Scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for additional scholarships.
Research shows women are disproportionately at risk of having insufficient funds in the second half of their lives due to lower earning and different work patterns. The AARP Foundation created the Women's Scholarship Program in August 2007 to help older women overcome financial and employment barriers by allowing them to participate in education and training opportunities they could otherwise not afford. In 2010, 200 women from all across the country were awarded more than $600,000 in educational scholarships ranging from $500-$5000.
Priority is given to women in three categories:
Those who are raising the children of another family member;
Those in low-paying jobs with no career opportunities and who are missing either a retirement benefit and/or health insurance; and
Those who have been out of the workforce for more than five years.
Scholarships may be used for any course of study at an accredited public or private school, including community colleges, four-year universities, and technical schools. Funds are payable to the institution and may be used to pay for tuition, fees, and books. Graduate students are discouraged to apply.
Applicants can submit their application online beginning February 1, 2011 at www.aarp.org/womensscholarship. The application process closes on March 31, 2011 and scholarships will be awarded in late 2011.
Scholarship winners are annually chosen by an independent selection committee established by the AARP Foundation. They are chosen on the basis of financial need, personal circumstances and achievements, educational goals, and the likely impact of the scholarship on their lives and their families and communities. The scholarship program is made possible by the AARP Foundation with generous support from Wal-Mart Foundation, and AARP.
AARP Foundation is AARP's affiliated charity. The Foundation is dedicated to serving vulnerable people 50+ by creating solutions that help them secure the essentials and achieve their best life. AARP Foundation focuses on hunger, housing, income and isolation as its key mission areas. The Foundation envisions: "a country free of poverty where no older person feels vulnerable." Foundation programs are funded by grants, tax-deductable contributions and AARP. For more information about AARP Foundation, please log on to www.aarp.org/foundation.

Lake Worth High School Success and Community Involvement!
Joanne,
It was so great making contact with you!
We are in the middle of an unbelievable rebuilding process with the band program at Lake Worth High School. This is my first year here at Lake Worth and when I started we had only 14 students in the program. We are now up to almost 70, which is 300% growth!!! In addition, the marching band received their first Superior rating at FBA Marching Assessment in 8 years! It is also my goal to start having these kids give back to the community. We have started doing this by performing at our Local Nursing Home, Medicana. My hope is in the near future we can start giving back even more!
We are currently looking for 5- 10 gallons of FLAT black deck and patio paint. We are need of this to paint our competitive indoor drumline’s floor. I am writing to see if your organization can sponsor us in providing the paint we need for the floor?
I look forward to working with you and your organization to better the education of our students and in helping to enrich the lives of our community!

Ms. Harris
I can't beleive how much support is coming for Ms. Harris.
Her caretaker has been living with her since she was "sent home" by the
Assisted Living Facility and Ms. Harris is now a very vibrant Senior Citizen.
My visit with her was a blessing and the community outreach from the PBSO D14 Team, Lake Worth Utilities, and we expect the support of the Lake Worth City Comissioners in this Process.

TEACHERS ROCK!!!!
Dear Sponsor,
My name is Elisa Ovett,
I am currently a second grade teacher for the Palm Beach County School District. I, along with 2 other teachers plan to go to Kien Giang, Vietnam with the Habitat for Humanity Global Village Program.
Habitat for Humanity is an organization which recognizes that we are experiencing a global housing crisis. Worldwide about 1.6 billion people live in substandard housing, and according to the United Nations another 100 million are homeless. HFH has shown that building homes does more than build clean, decent, stable housing around the world for those in need, this program also provides families with:
* Stability for their children
* A sense of dignity and pride
* Health, physical safety, and security improve
* Education and job prospects increase
The U.S. has millions of volunteers to fulfill the needs of American families. Places such as Vietnam do not have the wealth of volunteerism that we are afforded here in the states. This mission/build trip will allow me to help those in need, represent our country in a positive light, and work side by side with a different culture. It will also give me a tremendous opportunity to bring my experiences and perspective of this work back to my students at Palmetto Elementary and share this incredible journey with them.
The estimated cost of this trip is $3,200.00. As a teacher, you can understand that as much as I want to travel and work with HFH building homes for those in need, I cannot do it without monetary donations. It would be very difficult for me to cover all the expenses without your help. If you can provide any donation, which is tax deductible, it would be greatly appreciated. This experience will heighten, enrich, and bring insight to my life as well as other people’s lives. My sincere gratitude in helping make an impact on our needy cultures abroad.
Thanking you in advance for your help in this endeavor,
Elisa Ovett

Watergate Family - Goodwill made a difference
Greetings,
I hope this email finds you all in good health and having a happy 2011 new year! I've had a very busy past few weeks which is why this email is arriving a little later than I would have liked.
Thank you to everyone for your kindness and generosity during the 2010 Christmas season and helping our adopted family. Because of your generosity, this family had one of the best holidays during one of their toughest times. We were able to provide the family with clothes and NUMEROUS toys for all three children. The mother and father were overwhelmed by the donations and generosity shown. The family still did not want public attention and preferred to remain anonymous for reasons I'm sure everyone could understand.
During the Toys for Tots toy drive, the oldest son of the family volunteered approximately 20 hours helping sort and distribute toys in his community. He donated approximately 8 hours during our Thanksgiving food drive in November.
I approached several local businesses which were more than eager to assist! Lowes donated a grill for the family and even gave a few boxes of wood projects for the kids!
Gold Coast Tire and Auto donated tires, mounting and balancing for the family's' most used vehicle and even donated a free oil change!
Other holiday donations included free game and movie rentals from Blockbuster and two used games from Game Stop for the kids as well.
Mrs. Otto donated two VERY COOL Star Wars light sabers to the family and I have to say was the favorite toy of the day according to the mother of the family! Thank you Rosemary!
I must say that meeting Mrs. Otto was a very cool experience. My partner Mike Walsh and I received a short history lesson of how Lake Worth USED to be....and I was able to see first hand what an amazing artist she is!
We had a very nice basketball hoop and base donated by Vicki Smith. And after a little polishing with some Armorall, it looked like it just came from the showroom! Thank you Vicki!!
Back in October, I began working with an organization called 800 CharityCars, an organization that identifies families in need and assists them with reliable transportation through donations of automobiles. After weeks of numerous contacts with their representative and numerous attempts to get the family to complete the application form it finally happened! On December 24th, Christmas eve, the family met with me at an auto shop in Delray Beach and picked up their new ( well, new-ER) car! A 2001 Mazda Tribute! After many tears from the family and about a half hour to let it all sink in....the Mazda had a new family and the family now had a nice, reliable car! Now THATS a Christmas present!!
The generosity and goodwill displayed by you during the past holiday season was nearly overwhelming to me and I am thankful to have had the opportunity to meet some of you, speak with alot of you and know that there are good people still in this world. In my line of work, I usually meet those who do not want to meet me and usually I am not greeted with warm welcomes. It is nice to know that when there are those in need, there are those who help.
Thank you all and may you all have the best year yet!!

Lake Worth Resident Mrs. Harris Needs Your Help
Good Morning All,
Can you please pass this information along....
Mrs. Harris has applied for help from Rebuilding Together of the Palm Beachs and I had the great honor along with Sandi Debose, of doing a home inspection for this 86 year old homeowner in the Great City of Lake Worth.
Rebuilding Together along with Neighbors Helping Neighbors Project and the Genesis Neighborhood Association will be teaming up to try and meet the needs of this wonderful woman in her golden years. A Family freind has become her live in care taker after Mrs. Harris ran out of funds for the nursing home she was in and since she is back home her condition has improved 10 fold....
In order to keep her home we need help with the following items that the care taker is coming out of pocket for her and frankly funds are becoming very hard to come by.
Basic Daily Needs are: Diapers (Large pull-Ups), Chucks (Large), Gloves (medium), Bath Soap, Mouthwash, Lotion and Wipes
Bigger Needs: This home needs to be treated for termites and termite damage needs to be repaired through out the house, New Fencing needs to be placed in the back yard, A/C is so old they do not even make parts for it any longer, Fridge and stove on their last legs, garbage disposal is not working, Hot water heater caught fire and was repaired but needs to be replaced.
Any Monetary Donations can be made out to Rebuilding Together note "Harris" on the check or you can donate to this cause at the website http://www.rebuildingtogether-pb.org/ and reference Harris.
If you need a pick up of items please email at nhnproject@gmail.com or contact me at 561-909-8708.
Thank You for all that can help with this case and as we get closer to doing work at the home we will be asking for volunteers to help and I will keep you posted when that time comes.

Weymouth Street Abandoned Property Clean Up NEEDS YOUR HELP
On Sunday, residents of Weymouth Street plan to get together to clear the shrubbery that they say helped the rapist attack without being seen.
Boggs and Harris said that a hardware store had agreed to donate supplies and that more than 50 people had said they will be there at noon to help.
They invite anyone who wants to lend a hand to join them.

Neighbors Helping Nieghbors Project in the News
Robert Waples caught the help-thy-neighbor bug while working in his neighborhood just south of Lake Osborne.
Waples, who serves as president of the Residents of Lake Osborne Heights Neighborhood Association, learned of a single woman living alone after her parents died. A car crash had left her disabled. Trash was beginning to stack up inside her house.
Waples, a computer whiz, used e-mail blasts to rally volunteers to help clean the woman's house on weekends.
After several weekends of volunteer attention, Waples said, the woman's house was clean. And her outlook on life had improved.
"We watched her go from not caring to wanting her life back," Waples said.
The experience led the former hotel manager to organize more volunteers to help Lake Worth homeowners.
About 200 volunteers have helped on home repair projects around the city. Volunteers come from neighborhoods, churches and high schools throughout Palm Beach County.
Waples plans to take his volunteer coordination efforts to a new level this year by forming the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Project and applying for nonprofit status with the Internal Revenue Service. He hopes to strengthen the volunteer network in Lake Worth and branch out to other locations.
Helping others comes naturally to Waples. While growing up in Central Florida, he visited the elderly, drove buses, taught Sunday school and organized fund-raisers for the First Baptist Church of Frostproof.
When he's not busy organizing volunteers, Waples serves on Lake Worth's Planning & Zoning Board and works as the clubhouse coordinator for the Cascades community in Boynton Beach.
For more information on volunteering to help fix up homes through the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Project, call Waples at (561) 909-8708 or go to www.volunteerpalmbeach.blogspot.com.

'My mother passing. I was 15. I was really shy. I just burst onto the scene after that.'
If you were stranded on a desert island and could have only three things, what would they be?

COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC:
What sort of background checks does this person run on the volunteers? We can't have any person walking in and out of a disabled person's home.
Why use spam as a means of communication?
A "computer whiz" should understand the power of Twitter and Facebook. Spam is used by scam-artists and some lady from Nigeria with free money.
Are the home repairs permitted and handled by licensed professionals?
I know everyone has to start somewhere, but this appears to be amateur.
ConvictedFelon
Since my mother is the women Robert started with, I can honestly say that yes, everyone has to start somewhere. He is the ONLY one that actually did anything for my mother. State organizations made promise after promise, but then they all 'got investigated' and shut down. Robert is struggling now to find contractors to complete the job. To be honest, I wouldn't care as long as it got done. But it has to be contractors and permits have to be pulled.

Robert, thank you so much for pulling everyone together. I am a neighbor of the women that was helped. This has been a joint effort with a lot of wonderful volunteers.Again, thanks to all of the DOERS who chose to make a difference. When neighbors help neighbors, and even other neighborhoods in the area, we will all have a better place to live.Convicted,I hope that you can come out and help on our next job. Getting out in the fresh air will help clear away the cobwebs.

Robert Waples is daily making Lake Worth an even better place to live. He has a heart that is golden, and he puts feet on his prayers by being the change he wants to see in his community. He is a dream neighbor, and a great president for our association. I am excited to be a aprt of NHNP, and am proud to be a freind and neighbor of his.

Thank you all for such kind comments. Its takes all of us working together to make a difference and I am the one who feels blessed to have such great people to share these wonderful events with.
Please note that the email blasts are to people who have signed up to be volunteers and have signed appropriate paper work not random....so yes there are checks and balances and we are partnered with many Charities and contractors that are fully licensed....It was a good question so thank you.
Robert Waples
Robert Waples is the BEST! A caring soul and I am proud to call him "friend." Thanks for all you do for everyone. I have never seen anyone work so hard and be totally selfless.
Lynn Anderson

What are your hobbies?
'My animals, dogs, cats, birds and fish and my garden.'
Who would you like to have dinner with?
'Bill Clinton. He was one of the most effective presidents we've had in a very long time.'
If you could switch jobs with anyone, who would it be?
'Bill Gates. Because of his charitable work. It really comes from the heart.'
Who is your hero or someone who has inspired you?
'Bryan Adams (the Canadian rock singer/songwriter).'
What event changed your life the most?
'My mother passing. I was 15. I was really shy. I just burst onto the scene after that.'
If you were stranded on a desert island and could have only three things, what would they be?
'A laptop with satellite service, food and water.'

LAKE WORTH HIGH SCHOOL NEEDS YOUR HELP
Hi,
Lake Worth High School is in desperate need of track and field sports equipment. The school doesn't have enough funding to buy a new one. The high jump pit is dangerous and not usable.
They are trying to collect funds for this before January 25, as they need to order one and have it arrive before the first home track meet February 24. Your help, even in very small amounts, would greatly be appreciated. Small amounts gathered together can do it. I have attached a picture of the equipment. One of the high jumpers was 3rd in the county last year as a freshman, and now will be at a huge disadvantage without the equipment to practice on.
Please contact their athletic director, Seth Groveman, 561-533-6318 or groveman@palmbeach.k12.fl.us or send donations to
Lake Worth High School Athletics
1701 Lake Worth Road
Lake Worth FL 33460
ATT: Seth Groveman
Please specify on the donation it is for the high jump.
We are trying to raise around $4000, if possible. The equipment cost $5300,
Thank you,
Kerri Smith
