Volunteer Opportunities this weekend!!!!

Good Morning All!

A lot of things going on in Lake Worth this weekend! Why not start the weekend off by Giving Back to a couple of Neighbors in need!

At 2210 Collier we (Rebuilding Together) have Trade people coming in to start the rehab portion of the inside of the home. Will need Volunteers to help haul our debris and do yard work. The work will be riping down wall paper, taking out carpet and patch work all over the house to get it ready for painting. We will start at 9AM at this location and work until 1PM which gives you plenty of time to enjoy all the festivities going on through out the City of Lake Worth! Please contact myself or Joanna Aiken if you would like to help at Trixie's (nhnproject@gmail.com or jaiken@swa.org)

At 1502 S. K Street we (Paint Your Heart Out) are doing a house painting and need someone to go over and do the pressure cleaning before Saturday. I have a the tools just need the two bodies to get the job done. Very minor brush clearing and pressure cleaning THEN On Saturday starting at 8AM we can use additional volunteers to help do Trim and rolling for the Painting! This should be done by 12PM and again plenty of time to enjoy the Street Painting Festival that is running this weekend in Down Town. if you would like to help on painting please contact myself or Joanna (nhnproject@gmail.com or jaiken@swa.org)

Also please do not forget that our PBSO D14 Team has generously provided us a Sheriff's Trailer to store our supplies in so if you have Any kind of yard or house repair tools and would like to donote please contact Deputy Kovalski via email or call (561)662-2320....REMEMBER PLEASE DO NOT JUST SHOW UP AT THE STATION....Please make arrangements before you go to the Lake Worth Station.

If you are someone with the knack of repairing small engines such as pressure washer, blowers, weed wackers, etc....We need your kind and generous donation of time to help repair some donated items.

Rosemary Otto's Art Show

Dear Joanna,

Thank you for your help. My art show is at the CMAA Rec Center just east of the junior college at 2728 Lake Worth Road. Their phone number is 561-966-7026. His name is Donald Perez. (It is the Club Managers Association of America and it is the home of the Special Olympics.)

The opening party is April 7 between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. Everyone is invited and I hope to see them there. The show will be up until May 2.

If you have any ideas about publicity, I would be deeply appreciative. Could Chanel 5 be there? You have amazing clout.

I hope to be sending out invitations with the picture of my most recent painting on it. Penny is handling the invitations with help from her co-workers.

It is a brand new building and very fancy. (Every time you walk past the door, it opens.)

I hope to see you there.

Love, sincerely, Rosemary

Dress for Success needs YOU! Be A Volunteer for this Great Cause

Volunteers are the key to our organization's success.

We've reached the point where we want to really expand and grow our programs. Our clients deserve the very best, but we can't do it without you! We have some great new committees that are beginning to form to help us reach our goals, and we hope that one of them will speak to your heart. No matter what your strengths are, we know that you'll find the perfect place within our organization. Volunteering is not only great for your spirit...it's great for your health too! Plus, you'll get to make some new friends, build longterm relationships, learn new skills, and have a great time as well. Check out the opportunities below and join us!

We have several committee meetings planned over the next 2 weeks. If there is one you are interested in and you can't attend the first meeting, we'll be sure to send you the minutes if you let us know which one you are interested in. We also encourage you to share this message with your friends, family, and co-workers. Maybe they are looking for a new project! Check out the share buttons at the top of this email!

You are welcome to contact us at 561-249-3898 or via email at palmbeaches@dressforsuccess.org if you have any questions or would like more info about any of our volunteer opportunities. While we appreciate the value of teens and children, we would prefer that all volunteers be at least 16 years old.

We hope to see you soon!

Young Executives for Success (Y.E.S!) is a volunteer group which provides its members with volunteer, fundraising and networking opportunities in a fun setting. We are currently looking for young professionals to join the Planning Committee for this exciting new group. We’ll be organizing happy hour events, professional development workshops, museum showings, and events at Palm Beach County hot spots geared towards a younger crowd with the purpose of raising money and awareness for Dress for Success Palm Beaches while providing a networking opportunity for young executives in our community. Our committee chair is our fabulous board member, Jami Adkins. The planning committee will meet once each month. Our first meeting will be Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 6pm at Dress for Success Palm Beaches (128 South Dixie Highway, Lake Worth, FL 33460).

We are thrilled to announce that we are one of 30 Dress for Success affiliates around the world that will be hosting The Power Walk for Dress for Success. All the walks around the globe will take place on May 7, 2011 (the day before Mother's Day). Our walk will take place at Bryant Park in downtown Lake Worth. We need a BIG group of people who are passionate about fitness & healthy living, have experience planning community walks & events or have always wanted to learn how to plan one, or who are excited to bring visitors to downtown Lake Worth. PLEASE join us for our Power Walk Planning Committee. Since the walk is only a few months away and we have lots to do, we'll be meeting every 2-3 weeks. We will be breaking down into small sub-committees to make sure we have all our bases covered. Committees will include: team recruitment, sponsorships, logistics, media/PR, and volunteer recruitment. Sound intriguing? Join us for our first meeting on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 6pm at Dress for Success Palm Beaches (128 South Dixie Highway, Lake Worth, FL 33460).

We have had many people who have generously offered to teach programs or provide interviewing assistance to our clients. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to move forward with the educational component....until now! Now that we have a large pool of clients to invite, we need a group of people to put a system in place. We're looking for people who are passionate about teaching others and can help us launch our job retention workshops, interviewing & resume writing assistance program, and provide training to those struggling to find work. Our education committee will meet monthly at our center and will be responsible for the following: planning our schedule of educational opportunities, finding appropriate teachers or speakers, preparing any documents needed for the program, marketing the program to clients, surveying clients at the end of each workshop and reporting those reports at monthly committee meetings, and assisting with grant writing to cover expenses associated with educational programming. If this is a good fit for you....

The first committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 7, 2011 at 5:30pm at Dress for Success Palm Beaches (128 South Dixie Highway, Lake Worth, FL 33460)

Special events are the lifeblood of our organization. Without them, we would not be able to raise the funds we need to keep our doors open. Our goal is to have 4 top-notch, unique, fun signature events that will provide us with great community exposure, strong PR opportunities, and help us to raise money to cover our monthly overhead. Other special event opportunities may arise throughout the year but we want our four signature events to be AWESOME! Currently we have the following annual events that we would love some help with: Dress for Success Scholarship Pageant, Swanky Sweater Soiree, and our semi-annual sale. We also have a HUGE opportunity coming up - our 1 year anniversary! We have to celebrate in style in a big way! Bring your fun ideas and party planning skills to our first meeting on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 6pm at Dress for Success Palm Beaches (128 South Dixie Highway, Lake Worth, FL 33460).

Carfit Program for Seniors

MEDIA ADVISORY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 1, 2011 Media Contact: Marlene Moni, (561) 955-5627 Boca Raton Regional Hospital mmoni@brrh.com

EDUCATIONAL CARFIT PROGRAM AVAILABLE
AT BOCA RATON REGIONAL HOSPITAL

New safety program for senior motorists checks how well a driver and their vehicle work together

WHAT: Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s Davis Therapy Centers is hosting a first-of-its-kind program in Boca Raton that could make a lifesaving difference to both older drivers and their loved ones. CarFit is the first program to offer older adults the opportunity to check how their personal vehicles “fit” them.
Trained professionals will lead senior drivers through a 12-point checklist with their vehicle, recommend personal vehicle adjustments and adaptations and offer community specific resources that could make their personal vehicles fit better. An occupational therapist also will be on hand to provide information to older drivers on how to maintain and enhance their driving safety.

WHY: People over 65 are the fastest-growing population in the United States. By 2030, one in five drivers will be age 65 or older, which means there will be more than 30 million older drivers on our roads. They also are driving more miles and for more years. Improving the fit in their personal vehicle can help make them safer on the roads.

WHO: Developed through collaboration among the American Society on Aging, AAA, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
WHEN: Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 9:00am to 12:00pm
WHERE: Davis Therapy Centers, 650 Glades Road, Boca Raton in Oaks Plaza

RSVP: (561) 95-LEARN (53276)

CONTACT: Reporters will be able to interview senior mobility experts, older drivers, and shoot footage of this first-of-its-kind event in Boca Raton. Contact Marlene Moni, 561.955.5627.
