Resident of Jupiter needs food and clothing

Lois Simmons lives at 17703 Carver in Jupiter Florida 33458. She is on
dialysis and in July had a leg amputated due to her diabetes. She toes
to dialysis treatment on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays. Her husband
has been employed by Jupiter HS as head custodian for 15 years.

Lois and her husband are raising their 3 year old grand Niece and have
her in Pittman day care so she can play and have friends and learn. The
day care is $27.60 per week and she is struggling to pay that fee. Her
name is Joy and she is such a Joy to the Simmons family.

Lois is in a wheel chair and is able to take palm Tran to the grocery
store when she needs to go. Her husband does all of the shopping,
cleaning and work around the house. She is not able to get into her
husband's truck with her disabilities. She wants to go to Wal-Mart to
shop for a couple of hours for some items she needs for her treatment
and for easier dressing.

I asked her to list some things that would help her out in her daily
like with this new disability. She helped me make a list.
Cleaning products for the counter and bathrooms (she loves plug ins)
Size 4T dresses and shirts for Joy and size 10 tennis shoes for Joy. She
would love some dresses for Joy to wear to church on Sundays.
Lois would like ladies shorts size 24 for her to wear to dialysis
Pull over dresses for her to be able to dress herself
She would love food donations of vegetables, fish, chicken and any
canned goods.

She lives near Willie on Carver and we painted his house this past June
with Christ Fellowship group. Willie loves Joy and she goes to visit him
all of the time.

If you know of any one that would like to help this family please feel
free to contact me or call Lois direct at 743-2661. If you want to do a
group collection we could do that too.

One thing I did get from her is that her family is very proud and would
never ask for a handout. I sure with all of us we can help them out with
this small list of things that could change their lives.

She called me by accident ... she actually thought she was calling a
food bank.

Thank you every one for taking my e mails and letting me share the
stories that somehow come to my phone.

Progress at Trixie's House

VOLUNTEER - what a powerful word that carries such promise that in past, current and future times will always stand tall! This September 11th as we had the chance to think of the past and things that were so very tragic we as Volunteers paid our tributes by helping a person regain their independence and quality of life.

2212 Collier in Lake Worth has been a long project but through so many volunteers that share the greatest assets of all Caring and Sweat Equity we are making great progress to get this homeowner another step towards a better quality of life.

We will continue this project again this coming Saturday, Sept 18th and ask all that would like to join us to please come out and help. We still need to move heavy objects to rip out the rest of the carpet, remove wall paper, clean everything from counter tops to walls, bathrooms and any surface. There is still more rooms to go through and a lot of organizing to get this house ready for much needed inside repairs.....

After this Saturday we will publish a wish list items that may be needed and a list of work that has to be completed in order to make the home livable again.

Thanks to people like you this home as come a long way and we can see the completion and new life that we are bringing to this homeowner with in our reach. Volunteer - the key to making communities better.

LAKE WORTH RESIDENT IN NEED!!!

There is a increase in homeowner applications here in Palm Beach County
with residents that are in need of our help.

Rosemary Otto lives at 316 North M Street in Lake Worth, Florida 33460.
She is 71 and is a volunteer for many organizations on her own time. Her needs on her home are outside lights, window repairs, she needs a used referigator, smoke detectors hooked up to electricity (coderegulations), install fuses (?) and more.

Without these repairs she says that she will be homeless. Her phone
numbers are 582-4063 and 309-9962.

If you know any group or skilled volunteer that can help with these
items please share with the group. We will be there to help in any way
we can.

Thank you in advance...

Another Week in Juno Beach

Barbara was taken away from her home that she had lived in for so very
many years. This event was devastating to Ms. Lewis and to the
neighborhood. They joined together and took care of her while the most
amazing transformation took place at 1774 Pleasant Ridge Road.

This is what our neighborhoods should be like all over. We all got
together and worked to get Barbara back in her home and she was able to
move in on Sunday Sept 5, 2010. Gina thank you for spearheading the 2
weeks of events , Deb you were amazing with the Pod and organizing.
Robin we could not have done it without the roll off. Ruth (OCR) and
Robert(ROHLO) and Dan(Congressman Hastings office) thank you for joining
us with this venture. Jim , thank you for your amazing skills and
repairing the house for the inspection. Nancy your donation made it
possible to make the final repairs to get the inspection passed.

There is so much to know about the hoarding issues with our residents.
We will learn and experience together. Thank you all for guiding and
helping ... we all need each other ....You should be proud of the
accomplishments that were made. I know I am. What a great neighborhood.

Email to Volunteers....Do you Want to Join?

Dear Volunteer Group,

If you get this email then you are in my Volunteer group because you have volunteered on one of my projects or a project in Lake Worth or Palm Beach County that I was a part of. I respect everyone's right to privacy and or emails that they do not want to get. If you receive this and do not wish to be on the list please reply remove from list and your email address that you want off the list as many of you have multiple email Addresses.

We will be back at 2212 Collier Ave. THIS Saturday at 9AM to do a little more landscaping clean up but mainly for the inside clean up. Neighbors Helping Neighbors Project hopes that anyone that can help will turn out and those that can't please note that there will be many more opportunities in the future. You can see the history of this case at www.volunteerpalmbeach.blogspot.com , along with other cases we have worked with. Not all cases are hoarders as some are with the Paint Your Heart Out project or Rebuilding Together of the Palm Beaches and other volunteer efforts, but Neighbors Helping Neighbors Project is the "Sweat Equity" group that will dive in and help clean out for our neighbors in need.

Bottom Line is that Hoarding is a major issue through out the City of Lake Worth the County of Palm Beach the State of Florida and Nationally and what is sad is that there is not a team that addresses the issues in our County in Our Cities and in our South Florida Area. I personally challenge all County and Municipalities to come together and address the issue for the sake of bringing resources along side of our groups to help those in need. If you have not worked on one of our (Please note that OUR means my neighborhood ROLOH, Neigbhors Helping Neighbors Project, the City of Lake Worth, the County of Palm Beach and all the agencies such as Joanna Aikens Paint your Heart Out and Rebuilding Together of the Palm Beaches, OCR (Office of Community Revitilization), DCI Constructions, Amador Landscaping and so many many more groups that its almost impossible to name them all as Lake Osborne Presbyterian Church) OUR Groups means Community County Wide and we want to all work together to make this and other social issues become a project of hope.

Sometimes Neighbors just need to ask if another needs help.....Will you be a neighor? Will you reach out? Will you volunteer in your neighborhood to make a difference? Start a Neighbors Helping Neighbors Project in your area today.....Don't wait just join and follow us at: www.volunteerpalmbeach.blogspot.com

Sweat Equity is more valuable than the price of Gold and even Wall Street can not challenge that :-) Know someone that works on Wall Street? Forward this to them and THANKS for being a great Neighbor!
