Volunteer Opportunity 2212 Collier Ave Lake Worth

Dear Volunteers,

Please note the new email address that will allow me to keep track of the email list in a more efficient way. Please add nhnproject@gmail.com to your contacts list so it does not go into spam.

We will be back at 2212 Collier Ave for the last bathroom clean out and wipe down of more furniture on Saturday, Dec. 11th. I was originally planning on Dec. 4th but ran into a scheduling conflict. This step on Saturday, Dec. 11th is very crucial as we have and will achieve the last leg of the clean out. We made GREAT progress on the last clean out and thank all the volunteers that came to help.

As we all know this is one of the toughest cases that we are working on and we are so blessed for the help that Paint Your Heart Out and Rebuilding Together of the Palm Beaches as provided and volunteers that they have sent to our project. THANKS JOANNA AND RUTH!!!! and all our friends with both organizations!!!

Dec. 11th we need 5-10 Volunteers, two will be moving the last of the trash out of the master Bathroom so others can bag it and then we need to clean down that bathroom and wipe all the furniture and facilities down to get the rest of the "dust" off of them and help remove the smell.

We are moving into the rehab phase of the program and will need some big hearts and help to bring this home up to code and ready for Trixie to move back in! Please come by on Saturday, Dec. 11th, if not to volunteer but to help check the wiring, plumbing and all other "fix it" items to help make the list so we can go forward with finding the funding and the donations to finish this home. Again I personally want to thank everyone that has helped in so many ways during this HUGE Event!

Please remember when you go back to your neighborhoods, your family and friends, look around and see if there is a person in need where you live! Don't just be a good neighbor! be a GREAT NEIGHBOR by referring those in need to the charities that can help them! Please find links to various groups at www.volunteerpalmbeach.blogspot.com and if you have a charity that is not linked and want to have one please send me an email with the web address.

NHNP is not just about working in our area but helping link others to the help they need where ever you live! And remember that all projects and volunteer opportunities help support your community service hour requirements!

Joy Brenner's House gets a PYHO make Over!

El Sol painted the home of Joy Brenner in Jupiter. (Pictures at bottom of post)

She keeps a very nice house and lives in a beautiful neighborhood. PYHO was able to have the house pressure cleaned and ready for painting. The volunteers from El Sol and myself painted and were done in just under 2 hours. The rest of the time we painted and touched up. Here are the photos I took of the volunteers from El Sol. Many thanks to Jocelyn and Dora for organizing with me. But special thanks to Antonio, Filiberto, Jose, Juan Carlos, Victor, Telesforo, Miguel , Juan Camposew, Fernando , Simion, Genaro and Baltazar. You guys are amazing and have helped so many homeowners with their needs for maintenance. We can only say another thank you and you are very much appreciated.

Joy had to go to work when we painted but she came to see us in action and she got out of the car she was crying tears of joy... it was quite touching to all of us. We gave her hugs and there are no words to describe her appreciation written all over her face. It was a great moment.

Enjoy the photos and Joy we are proud of the PYHO team and the beautiful paint job we did on your home, play house and mailbox.

Devoure Family

The Desouvre family had the home inspection and paid over $300.00 for it. The inspection passed with everything. They moved in the beginning of this year and then the rain came and the water came in from many places. The fact that the house needed a new roof badly was never discussed and did not show up on any report. They have tried all ways to find out how this could happen and have reached many dead ends.

They found out about Rebuilding Together a national nonprofit in which volunteers all over the country help homeowners in need. RT has contacted and received a great response from National Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association. There are roofing companies that have stepped up and are ready to help this family but need to share in the expenses.

The homeowners have raised funds in the amount of $1,800.oo and RT received donations from companies and individuals. The HOA has received many calls about the blue tarp and as you can see in the photos none of us would want this in our neighborhoods.

The part that alarms me is that they have a 3 year old and there mold issues in the house. The new roof will stop the mold from growing and would not do any more damage to the structure and interior of the home. The water comes from the ceiling fans and lights so they can't be used until the roof is fixed. The bids have come in from $6,500.00 labor
only , if we could get supplies donated to $9,500.00 to $12,000.00.

This husband and wife both work and are very talented and professional. They have not wanted to ask of our help but they really need it. I feel that they need a chance to live in this very great neighborhood and live safely for the sake of their 3 year old .

What we are asking from Rebuilding Together that if you could find any sources to be able to help it would be much appreciated. A donation , a donation of supplies for the roofing materials , time and skills for labor.

Thank you for your time and a have to send a special thanks to Bob McNab from Graboski Roofing and Dave from Sky high roofing. They have stepped up to the plate and made some great offerings to help this family.

phone number is 582-4063. She has voice mail and she volunteers all the
time at a hospital.

I heard that the basketball hoop is being delivered today. Your guys

2212 Collier Lets Hit the Finish Line!

Dear Volunteers,

We have one more day to have the last room cleaned out and some organization projects in order to get ready for the next phase that will be the inside Rehab portion of this project. Dates available to do this will be as follows and if you can confirm what Dates you will be able to attend we can schedule accordingly. Again this is and probably will be on of the biggest projects that we have taken on but we do need to finish the clean up project and then move on to Rehab and your help is greatly needed and appreciated!

Dates available are as follows:

Saturday, November 13th and/or 20th

Saturday, December 4th and/or 11th

We will need 10+ Volunteers and please forward this to anyone you think will be interested in this project. As a reminder this project is indoors with just a few things to take care of outdoors and is a case that involves a very serious case of Hoarding. We have come such a long way and the homeowner is and has been a trooper and a willing participant in her own efforts to solve her issues and be back in her own home. This final clean up will leave us with the rehab portion which we will be appealing to the Construction and Trade industries for their very kind and generosity to help get the inside livable and the homeowner back into her home.

It is with my deepest and heart felt wish to finish this project and for all trade people that can donate time, material and energy to bring this project to a finish along with the hundreds of volunteers that have helped up to this point. Thank you again and many times over for all that have worked on this one and all the other projects through out Lake Worth and beyond. Every ones efforts have made this project and many others the success that they are. Please email me back with which of the dates above you can help and all dates will start at 9AM and we normally work until 12PM.

Sincerely,

Finish cleaning the Master Bedroom/Bathroom, Complete wipe down of all Furniture, Remove Mattresses from Master Bedroom, Remove more carpeting, Clean Windows inside and out, removal of wall paper.
We need about 10 plus Volunteers to help with these final steps to begin the rehab process.

Future needs will be as follows.....

Such as repairing the sliding glass doors so they work, Electrical testing of all area's of the house to ensure that the wiring is safe, check of the plumbing to ensure proper operation, Outside lights wiring tested for replacement parts to be installed replacement of the window in the front door and misc.....minor repairs.

We also need additional funding sources to help pay for costs related to this rehab with leads to grants, donors and senior/disability services that can provide aide to this Lake Worth Resident.

The very many volunteers that have worked so hard on this project for the 14 weeks that we have been here, are so greatly appreciated and we are now so close to getting this homeowner back in her home and bringing the home back to code which will improve her quality of life and the quality of the neighborhood as a whole. Being our largest project to date we need to keep the momentum going and bring the project to completion. THANK YOU to everyone that has dedicated so much to this great project and lets move it to the final stage!

Family in South County Cont....

Ok, I just got a call from Crpl Goddard, and here is the info we need:

The two younger boys need both clothes and shoes.

Tyler is 9 years old, clothes size 10-12, shoe size: 3 ½. He loves anything that is with remote control, iron man super hero, and Nerf toys.

Oustein is 10, his clothes size is 12-14 and shoes size 4. He loves anything Star Wars and Lego items, specially the “space police” items.

The older boy is 16. According to the mother, he doesn’t need clothes or shoes because his grandmother buys them for him. He loves everything that has to do with the Miami Dolphins. Crpl. Goddard will find out his shirt size.

The boys really want to have the basketball hoop repaired. It has been destroyed as a result of a past hurricane.

Anything that can be provided will be greatly appreciated. I understand that Crpl. Goddard wants us to all coordinate what we are doing so there is no duplication.

Thanks in advance. It is all about people helping people.

Lantana Road Woman in Need

Joanna,

My client Christine Terhune was referred to 211 and then to Elder
Crisis Outreach by a deputy with Palm Beach Sheriff Office after he was
called out to her home because two strange men were in her yard. The
deputy told her that she needs to get her bushes trimmed so no one can
hide in the bushes and informed her that there are agencies that can
assist her with this matter.

My client only works part time and had just returned to work on 10/6
after having major surgery and treatment for ovarian cancer. She is not
able to afford any vegetation clean up in her yard. Is there any
volunteer who can assist her? Can you send her an application for
Rebuilding to Together? Let me know. Her address and number is: 3209
Hypoluxo Rd Lantana, Fl 33462 (561-969-0152). Thanks

South County Family to Receive Thanksgiving Meal

Joanna / Cpl. Goddard,

Good Morning, I am Nicole Heran (Bobby Dowlers daughter J ) Joanna as you know I am involved with an organization called Skanska Young Professionals; we are a young professional organization supported by the corporation which we are employed which is s Skanska USA Building . This organization allows us the opportunity to network with other professionals and provide community outreach events several times a year. Currently we are putting together a community outreach event for the Thanksgiving holiday, we are concentrating our efforts in the Dania Beach area and already have all of our families picked out; BUT….. After I saw this e-mail and realized this families needs we have decided to extend our outreach to one additional family (The Watergates). We will be providing a full Thanksgiving meal and I am willing to deliver it to The Watergate Family on 11/19/10 in the afternoon if you accept. Please see below for specific information on this event. I look forward to hearing from you and again would love to help out.

Family in Need in South County Area

Joanna,
First off....let me apologize for the length of this email.... I know it looks like War and Peace.

During the holidays, we are usually tasked with finding a family that could really use our assistance, whether it be with just Thanksgiving food, Christmas toys for their kids etc, etc.
There is a family in the Watergate Estates trailer park that could really use some assistance all around. This family has assisted us in the past with numerous community related projects, provided us with intel and has even let us conduct surveillance from their home so that we could obtain a search warrant for a nearby drug house. They greatly support our efforts here in the Watergate community.
The husband is a truck driver and has to be away from the family for weeks on end at times so that he can make ends meet to pay bills, mortgage, power etc, etc. The wife is unable to work due to medical issues and cannot afford medications she is prescribed so she lives pretty much in pain so that money can go towards the kids and more immediate family needs.

Their house is near foreclosure ( possibly already IN foreclosure) and they are struggling to make ends meet.

I keep in constant contact with the mother and father regarding the community and any activity in the area. The Mom has insomnia and sees and hears alot of goings on in the community and passes that information on to us. On Tuesday, I stopped out at their residence when I saw the mom leaning on the hood of their car crying. I talked with her for about an hour regarding the family's situation and this holiday season and how the family is facing one of the toughest times. The family has never had a sense of entitlement or felt they deserved to get assistance, or expected anything in return for supporting our efforts in the community. Mom actually apologized for sounding so selfish, that there were other families that were probably in worse shape.

The family has two cars. A 1985 Volvo with over 200,000 or so miles on it and rarely makes it very long without a breakdown. The car was given to the family by the moms mother so that the husband can go to work and not leave the family without transportation. Mom has a separate car to take care of the kids, family needs and any emergencies that may arise while he is gone. The second car is a 1994 Honda Civic and also has over 200,000 miles ( although they are not positive as the odometer broke at 133,000 miles). It also breaks on a regular basis.

On Saturday, October 30th, I met with Gold Coast Tire and Auto repair manager Al Yaghy and told him about the family. He donated 4 new tires, balancing, mounting and an alignment for the family AT NO CHARGE! (We are going to recognize Mr.Yeaghy and his crew for their generosity in the near future.) I attached a picture of Mr. Yeaghy of Gold Coast Tire and his head mechanic. Behind them is the Honda belonging to the family.

I have a few things that we can help the family out with such as the Thanksgiving food drive, toys for tots and shop with a cop event ( we have helped the family in the past with the Toys for Tots program ) a portable basketball hoop for the kids ( theirs was damaged in a recent storm), the mom says the younger boys were wanting anything star wars but needed clothes and the oldest (17 years old) understands that he may have to sacrifice his holiday so that the younger brothers can have a decent Christmas.

I know we call upon alot of businesses in the local area to assist but if we can think of anything that we can do to help...I'm sure it would make life alot easier on the parents.

Joanna, If you need any additional information, please let me know.
And if I get any additional information regarding the family, I'll contact you too.
Thanks!
